Vision Ventilation are delighted to be involved in the restoration of Fort Widley.
Fort Widley is one of a series of Napoleonic forts built for the defence of Portsmouth against landward attacks in the 1860s and known as Palmerston’s Follies as they were never used defensively. The neglected fort is set on the top of Portsdown Hill overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and is now undergoing historic restoration. It is laid out in a massive polygonal trace plan and surrounded on three sides by a dry moat.
The heritage division of Portsmouth City Council employed Vision Ventilation as consultants to design and manufacture a series of ventilation systems to replicate as closely as possible what would have been installed over 100 years ago. At present two systems have been installed with a further three due for installation in the next few months.
