Overview
The village hall is the center of this small coastal village used for multiple disciplines from child care during the day through to drama and theatre productions in the evenings. During peak condition the temperature within the hall became excessive and uncomfortable for the occupants.
The Brief
The existing hall had some original roof turrets that had been sealed up many years ago. The client asked us if it was possible to utilise these to provide some form of ventilation to assist with cooling the space during performances.
Our Solution
Vision carried out as full survey of the hall and based on the maximum number of people produced design calculations to demonstrate that installing two windcatchers would significantly reduce CO2 to acceptable legal levels. The old metal ventilators were removed, and the curbs increased in size to accept new aluminium ventilation turrets. The internal quadrant splitter plates within the turrets guide fresh air in and exhaust air out through dedicated air routes controlled from a throat mounted volume control damper.
