Scope of Works
The new community centre was commissioned and funded by the Council and building contractor as part of a large new housing development in Olney, the home of the song “amazing grace”.
The building is naturally ventilated and had to use a fully automated system that would adapt to internal CO2 and temperature conditions.
The Solution
Vision Ventilation were commissioned by MP Build in conjunction with the architect to design, manufacture and install a bespoke natural ventilation system. Our calculations based on the maximum occupancy and room activity determined that the building required two roof mounted windcatchers each 1.2m wide x 1.2m long x 1m high each designed to provide fresh intake air whist displacing warm passive stack through the same unit.
The air flow rate is controlled through a UPVC volume control damper mounted in the throat of the timber roof upstand. When closed the U value of the roof construction is maintained preventing heat loss during winter months. The dampers open and close from individual wall sensors that measure the room temperature and CO2 levels along with traffic light indication to display the air quality in the room. Under extreme peak summer conditions air movement is enhanced by a standby extract fan mounted in the duct at celling level to boost extract air movement.
