Solutions

Our range of standard wind harnessing systems are designed specifically for applications where we need to achieve stringent air change rates, comfortable ambient temperature, and legislated CO2 levels. We design the ventilation system based on the building and occupant requirements and then use our proven range of ventilation products to ventilate the building.

The ventilation systems provide complete weatherproofing to the building and are fitted with integrated volume control dampers to insulate and seal the building when closed to exceed Building Control standards.

To achieve the highest BREEM requirements all our systems are designed to reduce and eliminate unwanted noise infiltration and provide exceptional acoustic and thermal performance. Each design is constructed to the specific clients’ requirements with a range of services from simple consultancy, standard ventilation products through to unique architectural systems where the aesthetics are of utmost importance.

From the initial conceptual idea our engineers mould the idea into a realistic working solution to achieve ultimate performance and architectural inspired designs. In the development stage we produce detailed design calculations, full independents product performance testing and CFD analysis of the project location to ensure the ventilation system exceeds the design requirements.

Design and Development

As Consultants we have the ‘in house’ resources a to take an idea, a sketch or a ridiculous concept and develop the simple idea through a series of stages from inception to finished tested and certified products.

Omni-directional Rotating Ventilation

For over 20 years Vision have pioneered the design and development of large architectural wind driven rotating wind ventilation cowls. We design our cowls to specific architectural requirements, independently tested to exceed the ventilation performance and structural loads imposed by extreme wind speeds. Each system is designed to free rotate in and away from the prevailing wind at ultra-low speeds to efficiently capture fresh air guiding it into the building and exhausting stale air at the same time on the leeward side.

Case Studies

The National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff

The Parliament building in Cardiff is adorned with the world’s largest rotating wind cowl. Contained within its aluminium shell is a modulating volume control damper to allow the debating chamber below to breath. Natural daylight is introduced through a suspended inverted mirror cone.

WWF Headquarters, Woking

The World Wildlife Foundation is an eco-designed building using the latest natural ventilation strategies. The roof is fitted with four rotating wind cowls that track away from the wind to allow the building to breath. Fresh air is introduced with bespoke inlet louvre turrets at low level.

BedZED, London

The roof of the three storey housing and office development is fitted with 79 omni-directional rotating wind cowls that provide both intake and extract air through the same roof terminal via passive heat recovery cassettes mounted in the base of each wind cowl.

Bluewater, Shopping Centre, Dartford

Thirty nine rotational ventilators are installed onto the roof of the centre, positioned over each of the three malls. These cowls are designed to rotate into the prevailing wind under speeds as low as 2m/s.

Lympston Village Hall

When the hall was full extreme temperature build up occurred with no means of ventilating the heat. Vision installed two windcatchers that alleviate the temperature build up providing a comfortable environment at peak occupancy.

Passive Ventilation

The gold standard in natural ventilation is the windcatcher designed to provide intake and extract air through the same roof terminal is the perfect solution for schools, academies, and commercial buildings. Each of our designs are bespoke to the application in both design and performance with tailored performance enhancements from special finishes, acoustic and fire rating through to high thermal and air leakage requirements.

Case Studies

Napoleonic Fort – Howarth Ventilator

The Howarth Ventilator, from what we can establish was designed in the mid 1800’s primarily to ventilate the Royal Armouries munitions stored deep within the Napoleonic Forts located around the coast of Great Britain.

National Assemble for Wales – Rotating Wind Cowl Refurbishment

The largest free rotating wind cowl is situated on the top of the Welsh Parliament Building. Although maintained routinely it was found that the rotation of the cowls was compromised and not as responsive to low wind speeds as originally designed…

Fort Widley Restoration Update

We have now completed our installation at Fort Widley consisting of two historically correct roof turrets sitting on a newly constructed brick pier that provides natural ventilation to the stable blocks 5m below.

Brighton Central Library

The roof of the library is fitted with three 6m high ventilation turrets constructed from 6mm thick aluminium sheets formed into a seamless structural feature to passively ventilate the open space library below.

RSPB Visitor Centre, Rainham Marshes

These unique ventilation towers are designed to allow passive air extract over a 360 degree range and will ventilate regardless of weather conditions through the innovative circular chimney constructed from stretched polycarbonate panels.

Stoneleigh Road, London

Distinctive roof mounted ventilators adorn vertical shafts that pass through the three story building. At each floor level high level motorised acoustic flap ventilators are mounted at ceiling level to allow passive warm air to pass into the shafts for extraction at high level.

Highfield School, Letchworth

Three educational teaching blocks are fitted with large natural ventilation and daylighting turrets designed to passively ventilate the classrooms and to flood the open corridors with natural daylight.

Dun Laoghaire Library, Dublin

The library and civic offices are fitted with five bespoke fixed ventilation turrets fitted with internal rotating drums, one for extra and one for inlet that track the wind direction and automatically move to into the wind to provide optimum natural ventilation.

Bower Ashton Campus, Bristol

Eleven roof mounted ventilation turrets that provide both fresh air intake and passive exhaust through the same terminal using dedicated air paths within the unit.

Camley Street, London Wildlife Trust

We designed a natural ventilation strategy that would fit discreetly into the sides of the timber cladding at eaves level. The sides of the building are fitted with a series of low-level and high-level perimeter louvres fitted with modulating dampers.

Architectural Inspired Designs

How often as an architect are you constrained by the industry standard uninspired fixed roof turrets? We are the opposite; our approach is to deliver exactly what the designers and architects require. Since 1994 we have delivered the most icon inspired ventilation systems all designed with the architects in mind without compromising on ventilation performance. For Vision Ventilation no idea or concept is too difficult, we pride ourselves on being able to deliver solutions within budget that have never been done before. No project is to difficult and this is what sets us apart from other ventilation manufacturers.

Mossbourne Community Academy, Hackney

The building is naturally ventilated by seven roof towers providing passive ventilation. Air passed through the building into open atriums in the centre of the building.
